The Census
Every five years, each male Roman citizen had to register in Rome for the census. In this he had to declare his family, wife, children, slaves and riches. Should he fail to do this, his possessions would be confiscated and he would be sold into slavery. The census is a great source of information about Rome

Did you know?
The census counted the number of citizens in the Empire. In this way the government could work out the future tax revenue and size of the army. To the people in the empire the census made them feel a part of Rome.
