Fascist
A supporter of fascism, where a strong ruler runs a country and there are no elections.

Franchise
The right to vote.

Inflation
The rise in price of goods and services.

Internment
To imprison without trial.

Gerrymandering
Rearranging voting districts for the benefit of a political party.

Guerilla warfare
A type of fighting that consisted of surprise attacks and ambushes.

Neutrality
A country that doesn’t take part in a war. It favours no side.

Partition
To divide the country into two parts.

Proportional representation
Political parties get seats in proportion to the number of people who vote for them.

Quota
A limit on the amount of a good (milk) that can be produced.

Republic
A country in which the power to rule rests with the citizens who vote.

RIC
The police force in Ireland.

Sectarianism
Being treated unfairly because of your religion.

Socialism
A system where everyone is equal.

Socialist revolution
To create a society in which everyone is equal.
