Workers’ and soldiers’ councils that controlled the cities in Russia in 1917.

Third Reich
Nazi-controlled Germany between 1933 and 1945.

Treaty
An agreement between countries. The contents are called articles.

Tsar
Title of the emperor of Russia.

Weimar Germany
The name given to the period of German history between 1918 and 1933.

World war
A war fought by a large number of countries on a number of different continents. World War I was fought in Europe, Asia and Africa.
